Achievements and Honours
Steve has never set out to collect awards or titles, but his dedication, resilience, and passion for making a difference have led to some truly special moments. Each achievement tells a story of hard work, growth, and the people who have supported him along the way. Whether representing his country, inspiring others on screen, or finding peace in nature and the countryside, these milestones reflect his commitment to living with purpose and making a positive impact
Shaw Trust Disability Power 100
Being named in the Shaw Trust Disability Power 100 in both 2015 and 2024 was an incredible honour for Steve. The award recognised his dedication, influence, and commitment to making a positive impact. To be listed alongside such inspiring individuals, nearly a decade apart, showed that his work continues to create meaningful change and inspire others.
Paralympian and Captain of Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby Team
Captaining Great Britain’s wheelchair rugby team was an immense honour for Steve. It wasn’t just about representing his country, but about leading an incredible team, supporting each teammate, and guiding them to achieve their best. He often reflects that over the years, his teammates supported him even more than he supported them.
RTS Best New On-Screen Talent
Winning Best New On-Screen Talent at the Royal Television Society Awards was an important milestone in Steve’s television journey. The award recognised his storytelling, authenticity, and connection with viewers. Being honoured in this way gave him confidence, motivation, and a platform to keep growing, improving, and representing people with honesty and integrity.
Freeman of the Borough
Becoming a Freeman of the Borough was a deeply meaningful recognition for Steve. It honoured his achievements in sport and media, as well as his commitment to supporting local charities. Being acknowledged by his own community for giving back and inspiring others remains one of the proudest moments of his life. Plus, he adds with a smile, it comes with the perk of being allowed to walk livestock through the High Street day or night unchallenged.
Celebrity Mastermind Champion
Winning Celebrity Mastermind was an unforgettable experience for Steve. It felt like a true level playing field where being in a wheelchair wasn’t part of the equation – it was purely about knowledge and focus. Competing equally against brilliant contestants and coming out on top was an amazing feeling, made even better by raising money for charity.
